There are currently over 40 million slaves in the world, and every fourth of them is a child. The scale of this problem is huge and growing, which is why the #MyFreedomDay campaign is so important. The event was initiated by the world's most popular American news station, CNN. As part of it, journalists asked a simple question: "What is freedom for you?", and encouraged students to share their answers on social media through comments, photos or video materials marked with the hashtag #MyFreedomDay.
- “#MyFreedomDay proves that youth around the world can mobilize themselves by participating in a full-day coordinated support action for people who have gone through the hell of modern-day slavery. From Seoul to Sydney, from London to Los Angeles,” says Leif Coorlim, Editor-in-Chief of the CNN Freedom Project.
This year's campaign was record-breaking, because CNN International correspondents reported this day from various schools around the world. They visited, among others, Hong Kong, Kenya, South Korea, Lebanon, Great Britain, and Poland. In Poland, correspondents from the USA appeared at Tadeusz Szeligowski 1st Level Music School in Poznań. During this live broadcast on CNN, students along with artists from the Audiofeels music band performed the song "Freedom" by Pharrell Williams. Young people, with the help of Dominika Kulczyk, broke down a wall built of negative slogans, bad emotions, and prejudices. Kulczyk Foundation also reached 15,000 educators all over Poland, sharing information about the campaign and key data on the problem of modern-day slavery.
