COUNTRY / PROBLEM
Afghanistan is a South Asian country with 37 million inhabitants. In 2001, a war began in Afghanistan, initially directed against the Taliban, and then supposed to stabilise the political and social situation of the country. The war in Afghanistan now stands as the longest-lasting armed conflict since the Vietnam War. According to UN estimates from 2018, at least 32 thousand civilians have perished in Afghanistan over the last ten years and 60 thousand have been injured.
ORGANISATION
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, is an international non-governmental organisation established in 1971 by French doctors. Its mission is to provide medical aid to people affected by conflicts, epidemics, and natural disasters. The idea behind the organisation is that everyone has the right to health care and that health care is more important than political divisions or borders. More than 42 thousand people from over 150 countries are currently involved in its activities. MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 for its efforts.
