COUNTRY / PROBLEM
Liberia is located in West Africa. Thanks to its geographical location, the country has an abundance of natural resources such as water and forests, mineral resources, as well as a climate conducive to agriculture. However, Liberia is a low-income country that relies heavily on foreign aid.
During the 2014–2015 outbreak of Ebola, Liberian economy stopped growing, and many companies holding foreign capital withdrew from the country. The cost of combating the virus significantly reduced government revenue. Liberia is still slowly recovering from the economic crisis caused by the Ebola virus outbreak.
ORGANISATION
Founded in 1987, Partners In Health (PIH) is a non-governmental organisation that specialises in providing medical assistance. The organisation operates based on the idea that in order to solve a problem, it is necessary to address its cause, and, in developing countries, often the main cause of diseases is poverty. Therefore, PIH combines medical activities with other kinds of aid.
PROJECTS
Kulczyk Foundation provided funds to Partners In Health in Liberia to support Social Economic Assistance (SEA) beneficiaries. The programme reaches out to the neediest patients in places where poverty is the cause of diseases.
