COUNTRY / PROBLEM
Children’s cancers are still a taboo subject in Poland. Children need special care and support, also psychological. This is why the environment and people around them are so important. There are not many places where ill children (often from families which, for various reasons, cannot take care of them) can receive comprehensive care of high quality.
ORGANISATION
Fundacja Gajusz was established in 1997 in Łódź, when Tisa Żawrocka-Kwiatkowska’s son was staying in hospital in a serious condition. It was then that she promised herself that if her son recovered, she would establish a foundation for children. She used her experience from the time when she was afraid for her child’s life to create a place where children would not go through the hardships of illness on their own, and where parents would receive professional support.
The Foundation is active in many ways: it runs a hospice for children (both inpatient and outpatient), provides psychological support, medical assistance, and conducts the pre-adoption centre called Tuli Luli.
PROJECT
Fundacja Gajusz asked Kulczyk Foundation to finance the construction of a fence around the building of the Inpatient Hospice for Children in Łódź.
