COUNTRY / PROBLEM
South Sudan is the youngest country in the world. It gained independence in July 2011, when it separated itself from Sudan under an agreement ending the longest civil war in Africa. Just two years later, an internal conflict erupted in the country as a result of a dispute between the incumbent president and the vice president. More than five million people are suffering from severe malnutrition due to military actions that have been going on for five years as well as the severe droughts, which have been causing enormous crop losses. The humanitarian crisis in South Sudan is exacerbating the forced migration of the population. Over four million people have left their homes in fear of the fights and hunger.
