COUNTRY / PROBLEM
Yemen is a country in Southwest Asia and East Africa with a population of 28 million, which has been ravaged by a civil war since 2015. There is a shortage of drinking water, food, and access to health care and education. The health care system has become non-functional as the medical infrastructure has been destroyed and the medical staff are no longer getting paid. The sick, the injured, and pregnant women are often unable to get to remote hospitals. There has also been an outbreak of cholera and diphtheria. The country is in a humanitarian crisis.
ORGANISATION
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, is an international non-governmental organisation established in 1971 by French doctors. Its mission is to provide medical aid to people affected by conflicts, epidemics, and natural disasters. The idea behind the organisation is that everyone has the right to health care and that health care is more important than political divisions or borders. More than 42 thousand people from over 150 countries are currently involved in its activities. MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 for its efforts.
