‘She’s on her period, that’s why she’s so irritable’: how many times have you heard this in the workplace? How many of us thought at the time that this was discrimination? Exactly. What can we do then to stop this kind of communication? And how do you start a conversation about menstruation to make it completely natural? Answers to these questions are offered by the Kulczyk Foundation, which has just launched the first edition of its Career Cycle campaign. Let’s look into it.
Everyone can recall a situation where they felt so bad on their period that they had to come up with a reason to take time off work. Or where they had to take so many painkillers they were about to faint. Say goodbye to being productive! One solution to the problem may be a menstrual leave. Some Polish companies have already introduced it – without being forced to do it.
58 percent of women admit feeling ashamed about menstruation. No wonder – more than a half of men consider it inappropriate to talk about menstruation at work. While more and more companies strive to combat inequality, they seem to be forgetting about the basic needs of half of their employees. It’s time to change that – say the initiators of the Career Cycle social campaign.
Access to menstrual supplies and the ability to speak openly about one’s menstrual health and needs is all that is required to create a friendly workplace for all employees. Today, this has become easier with the support of the Career Cycle campaign.
